Tuesday Trends: Beauty Boxes. By Keeley
So, the latest craze seems to be beauty boxes. To get one involves you paying a monthly subscription for a re–occurring monthly delivery of niche products, as part of a marketing strategy and a method of product distribution.
Glossy box and Birchbox seem to be the two most popular beauty boxes on offer now. I’ve thought about trying both. My sister, friends and work colleagues love them and tell me it’s always a nice surprise when the box ‘lands’ on your doormat in the middle of the month and you wonder what beauty awaits you in the magic box. As such I thought I’d do a comparison of the two to share with any fellow wonderers.
Glossy box
Glossy box works out at £10 per month, with a special offer deal at £8.50 per month, if you sign up for 12 months. Both involve an additional postage and packaging fee of £3.25per month. They are currently offering a September special offer for £8 using code “YUMMY”. This is for September only. They also do much better deals if you pay for months upfront, but this is probably not the best option, if like me, you are a newbie to this.
The products are said to be worth over £50 and Glossy box have an exclusive relationship with “look fantastic” so high end products are guaranteed.
Birchbox
They are offering two free eye products (worth £19) if you sign up this month. Their boxes are £10 per month, £60 for 6 month (this is not a deal if my maths serves me correctly) or you can sign up for a yearly subscription of £110. All subscriptions incur a £2.95 postage and packaging charge, so postage is cheaper than that of Glossy box.
Although the products do not appear to be so high end in comparison to Glossybox, these boxes are much more personalised as you tell them about your beauty profile by answering a few short questions and this helps them to select the products to suit you.

So, I’m still on the fence as to whether I want to try these……. I’m worried I’m going to end up with a barrage of unwanted products or products I will never use. But what are your thoughts, experiences, recommendations?
I’d love to hear from you about these or any other beauty boxes you’ve tried.
