Tuesday Tips : The White house hotel Brighton

The best things are often discovered accidentally. So it was with the White house, a small boutique bed and breakfast hotel in Brighton.

I was in the middle of an intense case in the Family court on Edward Street, rising late and sitting early and the prospect of even the hour long journey back to London each day was unappealing.

I’m not even sure how I found it but I ended up at the White house and now wouldn’t stay anywhere else when I’m in a long hearing in Brighton or even Worthing.

The White house has won many awards for quality, cleanliness, service and its breakfasts and they are all well deserved. The rooms are immaculate but homely. Bottled water and chocolates are provided with the tea/coffee making facilities. And there are generous supplies of Orla Kiely products in the bathroom. The property is only 100 metres from the sea and watching the sunset from the beach after a stressful day is a joy.

There’s free WIFI, a hairdryer in each room and the place is just a 10 minute walk  (or 5 minute taxi ride) from the Family, County and Magistrates courts

Breakfast is a delicious affair with fresh juices, cereals and a range of cooked dishes all with locally sourced products.

The difference between the big impersonal hotels and smaller boutique ones is often the rapport you can build with the staff. The White house is run by Sean who is friendly and helpful and always willing to do what he can to accommodate you even when you ring in a panic at the eleventh hour because your hearing overran or the trains are messed up.

Meanwhile, the day to day manager, Daniel is a gem I’ve discovered. Not only does he rustle up the best breakfasts but he’s great to chat to about life, wellbeing, sailing and all that is! You couldn’t ask for a better start to the day.
